So please know that I know what I'm about to say is in no way rational or objective. But it is true... I HATE DAVIS I HATE UCSB Almost nothing in this world gives me greater joy than A. Beating Davis in Football and B. Beating UCSB in anything. Unfortunately, I can not make it to either tomorrow's game or the game on Saturday. So my admonition is this: if you can go, go. Cheer. Boo them. Will the Mustangs to victory. You owe it to those of us who can't. That is all. /end rant

For whatever reason.They are alright and solid as an institution. UCSB just sucks. Rugby and Halloween used to be good. But, all in all the Gauchos have always just blown. My opinion only. However I have a lot of respect for UC Davis and I enjoy that rivalry and the good sportsmanship that goes along with it. With that being said...I hope Cal Poly goes into Davis this weekend and blows them out of the water :) I will be at the UCSB game tomorrow night in hopes of a sell out crowd and will be traveling to UC Davis this weekend. Go Poly! :)

Posts: 1010 11/05/09 10:42 AM	Bummer start to rivalry week, as it seemed Poly had more quality chances than the Gauchos but just couldn't find the net. With this result, Poly is now assured of playing UCI in the first round of the BW tourney. If UCI loses home to Northridge on Saturday, Poly will host; a UCI tie or win would send the Mustangs to Irvine. Meanwhile, big game tonight for the Lady Mustangs as they host UCI in the semis of the BW WSoc tourney at 7. Poly beat UCI 3-2 in 2OT on October 4th; coincentally enough, that was also the last time the Lady Stangs gave up a goal.

Posts: 44 11/05/09 1:45 PM	The UCSB game was a lot of fun for being a 0-0 tie. The crowd was way into it and the student population came in mobs. Very impressive for a mid-week soccer game. That's why this is the Biggest Soccer Rivalry in the Nation...something to be proud of...

Posts: 531 11/05/09 2:28 PM	The crowd was great, but I don't know how they got a 9,000 + number out of it.. there was a large area blocked off right front and center in the east stands (seems pretty stupid to rope off the best seats), and it wasn't full in the northeastern corner. The new west side looked packed, and the student section was very loud and having a good time. It was a fun soccer game though- what happened to the video screen to cause that black spot though? A ball hit it or something? im pretty sure the endzone holds about 600 people, the west side student section was nuts... you easily had twice as many people intended for the section, kids standing on the bleachers and standing where normal peoples feet go when sitting in seat, so that easily doubles that capacity, i ended up at the mid field railing on the west side. as for the east said...they dont let fans sit with teams during the games usually... since spanos is not big enough for a true soccer field they put the teams in the stands... saves headaches and troubles roping off those areas to keep players safe from drunks and dumbasses who want to throw $hit at players... not to mention there were tons of people along the fences as well... so that number isn't that far out of the realm of possibility. it looked fuller than the last home football game and i believe that attendance was over 10000 * remember, my opinions are my own, and thats what they are OPINIONS *

Posts: 532 11/05/09 3:19 PM	You are right about how packed the student sections looked, and there were a lot of people all over the place, so it could have probably been 9,000+ I know I wasn't counted in the official number for this one. It was a pretty amazing turnout for a soccer match though.

This gives us one more point in the "Blue-Green Rivalry," so while we may not have the horseshoe, we're one step closer to winning...whatever the hell you get for winning the "Blue-Green Rivalry." 2. UCI lost to Northridge, so Poly MSoc will host UCI in the BW semis on Wednesday. Hopefully the Women's Soccer team can come through tomorrow...

Posts: 1670 11/08/09 8:53 PM	a tie should go to the home team or higher seed. the rules of any play-off game should be that the lower seed team must beat a higher seed, not tie, on the field of play during the time allotted to get the win! PK's should not be used to decide the outcome. It's a bad rule and needs to be changed!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUT!!!

Anyways, they're not making it in as an at-large -- they were 63 in the last RPI release on Nov 1. Good season though, for (as 805 correctly points out) a rather young team.
