The long rumored arena/convention center/hotel has taken a public step forward for Cal Poly, as Prez Armstrong released a feasibility study on the project by outside contractors yesterday. According to the report by Brailsford & Dunleavy:
-- The ideal size of an "Events Center" on campus would be around 5,500 seats, with 6 luxury suites, 300 club seats, 60 courtside seats, and a 300 person VIP lounge.
-- The facility would host men's and women's basketball games, along with "student-focused music concerts, a modest number of family shows, and six to ten annual rodeo and agrarian events."
-- The Events Center would cost approximately $107.4 million dollars, and would operate at a yearly loss of around $136k.
-- Also included in the plan is a 22,000 sq ft conference center (which would utilize the events center floor for trade shows/display space), and a 145 room hotel geared towards business use.
A location for the complex was not discussed in the report. No financing plan or concrete next steps have been announced.
